What is Comenius 2.1?

Jan Amos Comenius is often referred to as the father of modern education. As a teacher, his influence reached beyond his own country of Moravia, within the Czech Republic, to other European countries. Today Comenius is being honored as the namesake of the Comenius 2.1 project.

The aim of the Comenius 2.1 project is to promote European diversity and citizenship through education and other local authorities. This includes the promotion of various neighbor languages and cultures. The project is also focused on increasing student life skills and development to better prepared them for their future careers and to be active European citizens. The target age for students is with the teenage years of 14 and 19.

The European Union is involved with the program. Currently there are thirty-two different Europe countries participating in the Comenius project. This number also includes some oversea territories and countries affiliated with Europe. Participants in the project hope to increase the European sense of community and enhance learning opportunities for teachers and youth.
